Daniel Sturridge has claimed that Liverpool need to win the title this campaign just for Steven Gerrard. The Liverpool captain has been with the club since coming through the youth academy. Even though there were opportunities to leave the club for the likes of Chelsea and Real Madrid, Gerrard resisted the urge. He has lifted all the major titles with the club, but the Premier league remains the only trophy that he has failed to lift in all these years at the club. Many pundits argue that Gerrard remains as the only top player in the Premier league to have not done this achievement.
However, it seems that the time has come for the 33-year-old to finally lay his hands on the Premier league title. The club are top of the table with just six matches remaining. They hold a two-point advantage over second placed to Chelsea. Anfield has been made a fortress once again with 14 wins in the 16 matches. Even though the likes of Manchester city and Chelsea are yet to visit Anfield this campaign, Liverpool are feeling confident about their chances of a title. Sturridge has been a major reason towards this brilliant form, as he has scored 20 league goals so far.
“If we win it, Stevie really deserves it, and he should win the Premier League because of everything he has done for this club. Every player in this team will do their best to help him achieve that goal. He’s been so loyal to Liverpool – he has been world class and still is. Stevie will always be a legend, not just for Liverpool but to England as well. He will go down in history as one of the best midfielders in the game, never mind just this club,” said Sturridge, who trails Suarez by nine league goals.
